Veteran Quarterback Reportedly Signed by 49ers on Tuesday.

More quarterback depth was required by the San Francisco 49ers, and they were able to fill it on Tuesday.

Kurt Benkert, a former quarterback for the Packers and Falcons, has joined San Francisco's practise squad, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Benkert will now replace Jimmy Garoppolo and Brock Purdy as the 49ers' third quarterback.

Due to Trey Lance's season-ending injury, Garoppolo has been promoted from backup to starter.

Benkert, a Virginia native and undrafted free agent, joined the Atlanta Falcons in 2018. Over the following three seasons,

he shifted between the team's practice squad and active roster, but he didn't take part in any regular-season games.

In 2021, Benkert transferred to Green Bay, where he began on the practise squad until eventually being promoted when Jordan Love was added to the COVID-19 list.

On December 12 of last year, he made his NFL debut against the Chicago Bears, twice kneeling to seal a victory.
