Iga Swiatek will take on fifth-seeded Ons Jabeur in the US Open final.

Iga Swiatek, the current world No. 1, will compete in her maiden US Open final on Saturday after outlasting Aryna Sabalenka 3-6 6-1 6-4.

Swiatek will compete against Ons Jabeur, a first-time New York finalist who defeated Caroline Garcia more easily, 6-1, 6-3, in the semifinals.

It may seem appropriate that Swiatek and Jabeur, two of the best female tennis players this year, will compete against one another in the year's final grand slam.

Swiatek is aiming for her third major championship, while Jabeur is seeking her first after losing the Wimbledon final two months ago.

The 21-year-old Polish sensation had to overcome sixth-seeded Sabalenka in a challenging encounter to go to the final.

She won 24 points overall, to Sabalenka's 22, and she converted seven of her ten break points,

the last of which she converted on match point when Sabalenka sent a backhand into the net.

The US Open final will feature a Polish woman for the first time on Saturday, and Tunisia's Jabeur will be the first African woman to compete in the championship match.
